Kurzbeschreibung:
Nanostructured ferritic oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloy is an ideal candidate for fission/fusion power plant materials, particularly in the use of a first-wall and blanket structure of a reactor due to their good oxidation resistance, excellent creep strength and higher resistance to radiation and swelling. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a suitable joining process for materials where the original metal characteristics must remain unchanged as far as possible. The FSW is a solid state welding/joining process which does not involve the use of metal filler or the melting of the materials, and has the potential to avoid significant microstructural or mechanical property changes. However, as the data available for these alloys are limited in scope, less work has been done to find the performance of weld metals under irradiation and optimum compositions and heat treatments for particular applications. Therefore, the important mission of this collaborative research project is the investigation of irradiation effects on friction stir welded ODS alloys for further development and optimization of advanced energy materials to be used in fusion/fission energy systems. Additionally, modeling of irradiation of these alloys will be also included in this collaborative project.
