Universidad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria und TH Wildau festigen Beziehung

Fünf spannende Tage erlebte Prof. Travieso-González aus Gran Canaria Ende Mai an der TH Wildau. Seit es eine Kooperationsvereinbarung zwischen der Universidad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria und der TH gibt, ist das sein erster Besuch vor Ort – und das Programm war umfangreich.

Beim ersten Besuch der Universidad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) im vergangenen Jahr war er nur online zugeschaltet – jetzt hatte Professor Travieso-González aus Gran Canaria Gelegenheit, den Campus und die Menschen der TH kennenzulernen, mit der seine Universität 2023 eine Erasmus+-Kooperationsvereinbarung getroffen hat.

Schon jetzt promovieren zwei TH-Studierende an der ULPGC und ein weiterer Student plant ein Austauschsemester dort – doch die Kooperation soll noch weiter ausgebaut werden.

Zum Austausch darüber traf sich Professor Travieso-González daher mit Mitarbeitenden des International Office. Mit dabei waren Prof. Stefan Kubica, Vizepräsident Digitalisierung, die beiden PhD-Studenten Tobias Peuschke-Bischof und Gordon Lutz, die aktuell an der ULPGC Ihre Promotion begonnen haben, sowie Nico Brockmeyer, Bachelor Student der Telematik, der im kommenden Wintersemester auf Gran Canaria studieren wird.

Travieso-González leitet das Signals and Communication Department der ULPGC, welches er bei einem Treffen mit Lehrenden, der Studiengangskoordinatorin Claudia Wruck und dem Dekan des Fachbereichs WIR, Prof. Christian Müller, vorstellte. Im Gegenzug präsentierten Dr. Tobias Kutzner und Prof. Dr. Sandra Haas zwei ausgewählte Lehrkonzepte mit starkem Fokus auf die Digitalisierung des Fachbereichs und tauschten sich mit dem Gast über Digitalisierungsprojekte aus. Auch im Gespräch mit Vertretern des Fachbereichs INW ging es um mögliche Kooperationen, dazu traf Travieso-González Prof. Janett Mohnke, Studiengangssprecherin Telematik, sowie Janine Breßler und Prof. Xiang Liu, Professor für Mobilkommunikation.

Abstimmung mit Austauschstudenten

Ein Ausflug in die Hauptstadt bot Mitte der Besuchswoche Gelegenheit für Kultur und Erholung – inklusive Bootstour und Fernsehturm – bevor sich Prof. Travieso-González dann intensiver dem Austausch mit Studierenden der TH widmete. Bachelor- und Masterstudierende des Studiengangs Wirtschaftsinformatik präsentierten den Bearbeitungsstand ihrer aktuellen Projekte im Modul „Fahrerassistenzsysteme“ bei den Wildauer Maschinen Werken (WMW) auf Englisch. Prof. Travieso-González zeigte Beispiele für praktische KI-Anwendungen und aktuell laufenden KI-Forschungs-Projekte in den Bereichen Biomedizin und erneuerbare Energien am Signals and Communications Department sowie dem Forschungsinstitut IDeTIC (https://idetic.ulpgc.es/) der ULPGC.

Nach Gespräch mit Prof. Friederike Busch und Prof. Alexander Lübbe (Fachbereich WIR) stimmten sich Prof. Travieso-González, Prof. Kubica, Dr. Kutzner und die beiden PhD-Studenten zu den jeweiligen Promotionsvorhaben ab. Der Austausch über die weitere zukünftige Zusammenarbeit in Projekten oder bei Abschlussarbeiten an der TH Wildau und an der ULPGC auf Gran Canaria wird auch nach dem Besuch fortgesetzt – die Kooperation für die Zukunft gestärkt.

Technical University Wildau and Universidad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria strengthen ties: Prof. Travieso-González visits

Prof. Travieso-González from Gran Canaria spent five exciting days at the Technical University Wildau at the end of May. This was his first visit since the cooperation agreement between the Universidad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Technical University Wildau was signed, and he had a packed schedule.

During his first visit to the Universidad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) last year, he was only connected online – now Professor Travieso-González from Gran Canaria had the opportunity to get to know the campus and the people at the TH, with which his university has had an Erasmus+ cooperation agreement since 2023.

Two students at the Technical University are already doing their doctorates at the ULPGC and another student is planning an exchange semester there – but the cooperation is set to be expanded even further. Professor Travieso-González therefore met with staff members of the International Office to discuss the exchange. Also present were Prof. Stefan Kubica, Vice-President for Digitalisation, the two PhD students Tobias Peuschke-Bischof and Gordon Lutz, who have currently started their doctorates at the ULPGC, and Nico Brockmeyer, a bachelor's student of Telematics, who will be studying in Gran Canaria in the coming winter semester.

Travieso-González heads the Signals and Communication Department at the ULPGC, which he presented at a meeting with lecturers, the programme coordinator Claudia Wruck and the Dean of the WIR department, Prof. Christian Müller. In return, Dr Tobias Kutzner and Prof. Dr Sandra Haas presented two selected teaching concepts with a strong focus on the digitalisation of the department and exchanged ideas with the guest about digitalisation projects. Possible collaborations were also discussed with representatives of the INW faculty. Travieso-González met with Prof. Janett Mohnke, programme spokesperson for Telematics, as well as Janine Breßler and Prof. Xiang Liu, professor of mobile communications.

Exchange with students

A trip to the capital in the middle of the week provided an opportunity for culture and relaxation – including a boat tour and a visit to the Berliner Fernsehturm – before Prof. Travieso-González devoted himself more intensively to exchanges with students at the TH. Bachelor's and Master's students of the Business Computing degree programme presented the status of their current projects in the ‘Driver Assistance Systems’ module at Wildauer Maschinen Werke (WMW) in English. Prof. Travieso-González showed examples of practical AI applications and current AI research projects in the fields of biomedicine and renewable energies at the Signals and Communications Department and the IDeTIC research institute at the ULPGC.

After discussions with Prof. Friederike Busch and Prof. Alexander Lübbe (Department of WIR), Prof. Travieso-González, Prof. Kubica, Dr. Kutzner and the two PhD students agreed on their respective doctoral projects. The exchange on further future cooperation in projects or theses at TH Wildau and ULPGC in Gran Canaria will continue after the visit, strengthening the cooperation for the future.
