Ori Isakowitsch

Stellen Sie sich bitte kurz einmal vor/Please introduce yourself briefly*: 

Mein Name ist Ori Isakowitsch, ich habe Mathematik im Bachelor an der TU Berlin und Kognitionswissenschaften im Master in Dublin studiert. Mich interessieren die materiellen Dimensionen generativer KI und die Frage, wie wir KI so gestalten können, dass sie unsere Werte und Nachhaltigkeitsziele unterstützt. Die letzten drei Jahre habe ich im Projekt „KI-Ideenwerkstatt für Umweltschutz“ bei der ZUG gGmbH gearbeitet und dort gemeinsam mit Umweltschutzorganisationen nachhaltige KI-Projekte umgesetzt.

My name is Ori Isakowitsch; I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at the Technical University of Berlin and a Master’s degree in Cognitive Science in Dublin. I am interested in the material dimensions of generative AI and the question of how we can design AI in such a way that it supports our values and sustainability goals. For the past three years, I have been working on the ‘AI Ideas Workshop for Environmental Protection’ project at ZUG gGmbH, where I have implemented sustainable AI projects in collaboration with environmental organisations.

In welchem Bereich werden Sie künftig an der TH Wildau arbeiten und welche Aufgaben kommen auf Sie zu?/In which area will you be working at the TH Wildau in the future and what tasks will you have to fulfil?

Ich habe im Mai meine Stelle als wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in in der Forschungsgruppe iC3@Smart Production bei Prof. Jörg Reiff-Stephan begonnen und promoviere über das Promotionskolleg der Hochschulen in Brandenburg. Inhaltlich beschäftige ich mich aus sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive mit den Auswirkungen von Rechenzentren, also der Infrastruktur von KI, auf lokale Gemeinden in Brandenburg, bin also in den Science and Technology Studies verortet.

I started my role as staff in the iC3@Smart Production research group led by Prof. Jörg Reiff-Stephan in May and am pursuing my PhD through the Doctoral College of the Universities in Brandenburg. My research focuses on the impact of data centres – that is, the infrastructure of AI – on local communities in Brandenburg from a social science perspective, so my work is situated within the field of Science and Technology Studies.

Warum haben Sie sich für die TH Wildau entschieden?/Why did you choose to work at TH Wildau?

Ich hatte schon länger den Wunsch zu promovieren und habe nun eine Stelle gefunden, die es mir ermöglicht mich komplett auf die Promotion zu fokussieren, das ist ein großes Privileg. Wildau ist außerdem aus Berlin recht gut zu erreichen (wenn die S46 nicht gerade ausfällt).

I’d wanted to do a PhD for quite some time and have now found a post that allows me to focus entirely on my doctoral research – that’s a great privilege. Wildau is also quite easy to reach from Berlin (provided the S46 isn’t cancelled).

Ich habe fast immer eigenes Mittagessen dabei. Die Salattheke in der Mensa ist allerdings auch super./I almost always bring my own lunch. The salad bar in the canteen is also great, though.

Am Abend: Füße hoch auf der Couch oder eine Runde joggen?/In the evening: Feet up on the couch or a run?
Ich gehe gern zum Yoga, bei mir im Kiez spazieren oder ins Kino./I like going to yoga, going for a walk in my neighbourhood or going to the cinema.
