Collect kilometres in the 2026 “Stadtradeln” campaign – sign up with the TH team

A better quality of life, robust climate protection and a strong commitment to promoting cycling – these are the aims of the nationwide “Stadtradeln” campaign. Our district is taking part too. It all kicks off on 29 August with the opening cycle ride in Königs Wusterhausen. For three weeks, everyone will then be counting the kilometres they cycle. Every kilometre cycled counts towards the nationwide ‘Stadtradeln’ campaign, which has attracted more and more participants every year since it began. This time, the three-week challenge in the Dahme-Spreewald district begins on 29 August.

The district itself, along with the municipalities of Luckau, Lübben, Eichwalde, Schulzendorf, Schönefeld, Wildau, Königs Wusterhausen, Golßen and Zeuthen, are all taking up the challenge. The university is taking part with the “TH Wildau” team and several sub-teams. Registration is open, and late entries are also welcome.

The kick-off will be a cycle tour around Lake Krüpelsee, starting on 29 August 2026 at 10 am on the station forecourt in Königs Wusterhausen. In the district, this year’s ‘Stadtradeln’ campaign is linked to the ‘Climate Adaptation Week’. From 14 to 18 September, there will be numerous hands-on activities and talks.

Local politicians as the target group

The ‘Stadtradeln’ campaign has been running since 2012 and was launched by the Climate Alliance, a network of European local authorities in partnership with indigenous peoples. The aim is to make everyday journeys as climate-friendly as possible for 21 days.

Local councils are specifically targeted by the competition, with the aim of raising awareness among local decision-makers of shortcomings in municipal cycling infrastructure through their own experiences, and of promoting cycling in a targeted manner. At the same time, the campaign is intended to contribute to climate protection.

Prizes for the most kilometres cycled

From 1 May to 30 September, towns and local authorities across Germany will, during various 21-day campaign periods, record the number of kilometres cycled by their councillors, staff and residents. At the end of the campaign, the kilometres will be totalled and awards will be presented to the ‘most cycling-active local councils’ and the ‘most cycling-active local authority with the most kilometres cycled’.

Every kilometre cycled, whether for work or leisure, counts during the campaign period. Participants can either count their distances themselves or record them directly in the ‘Stadtradeln’ app.
